At one point, Radio Shack (US) sold its stores in Canada to a division of Circuit City and then sued to terminate the agreement over the use of the name..No. About 1970, Radio Shack came to Canada, with stores directly under their control. About 20 years ago, they spun off the Canadian operation into a standalone company. That standalone company had a deal with Radio Shack in the US to use the name and sell the products. A few years ago, the standalone company sold itself to Circuit City. Radio Shack in the US didn't like that, in essence their name was being used by a competitor. So they went to court to withdraw the Canadian company's right to use the name. And they won. Hence all the stores in Canada changed their name to "The Source", but by then there were very few Radio Shack branded items in the store. Not only had they been using new brand names, but they'd also started adding non-house brand equipment to the lineup. When the stores had to get rid of the Radio Shack branded items, there was little being cleared out by then. ONce there was no Radio Shack here in Canada, that allowed a clear field for Radio Shack in the US. And obviously they found it too difficult to start from scratch at this late a date. Michael RadioShack {Radio Shack} Canada and "The Source" -by Circuit City in Canada At one time the "RadioShack" Brand Name in Canada was Owned and Operated by InterTan of Canada. InterTan was then bought by Circuit City (USA) The Brand Name dispute became an issue between RadioShack (USA) and Circuit City (USA). http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...5a9b4e218ff14a The result was that the former RadioShack {Canada} Stores became "The Source" -by Circuity City- . They are now marketing to the sado-masochist/homosexual/necrophiliac Republican crowd. Business has never been better. mike |

I thought they gave a list at the website (though the website seems to have now disappared, with only the announcement up), and my recollection was that the stores were clustered around the Toronto area. That would make sense, build up something in relatively small area with a big population, and then spread from there. Certainly that's the way it was in the early seventies when Radio Shack came to Canada initially. There were stores in Ontario, and you could get a catalog by mail (though it's been so long I don't recall if you could order by mail at the time), but it took a few years before the stores started sprouting here in Montreal. At the time it seemed like a fairly long time, but I would have gotten the catalog in the summer of 1971 or '72 by the latest, and there was a store nearby in '73 or '74. I noticed one generic clearnce warehouse in Sault Ste Marie had quite a large selection of Radio Shack stuff at 50% off list so they may be doing this in other cities. |

I never take my doggy outside without having the dog leash hooked up.
www.flexiusa.com It has a 26 foot long line on it,made for dogs up to 110 pounds.I looped her first dog collar through the handle of the leash and I slip my wrist through the dog collar so if it slips out of my hand, the dog can't go too far. cuhulin |

Not surprising given the changes that have occured over 25 years in retailing of electronic appliances and the lack of consumer interest in home electronic repair and experimentation. Radio Shack stores are more like a small higher priced version of the electronics and toy department at Target Department stores. |
