It's sort of a DE1103 with a docking MP3 recorder/player and then some! Computer loadable frequency memories, LW and Weather bands (Kaito model only), 1 & 5 kHz steps on SW, a third attenuator setting and powered speaker for external sources are obvious extras. Missing is coverage of the upper MW 1.7-3 MHz. Looks like the LCD screen of the MP3 module is shared with the radio but literature says the radio and MP3 can work independently. Time for somebody to start a KA1121 / DE1121 group! Tom |

Time for somebody to start a KA1121 / DE1121 group! The European model from Thieking and Koch has something different, too, I believe: http://www.thiecom.de/thieking/de1121/index.htm in German English translation: http://translate.google.com/translat...language_tools Most obvious is no gap coverage from 50kHz to 30MHz. Hmmm - quite the spread in prices... Degen DE1121 China model from tquchina ebay seller: US$79.90 + $24 shipping to Canada Kaito KA1121 US model: US$$199.99 + shipping Thieking DE1121 German model: Euro219,00 + shipping (~US$$290 maybe less w/o VAT) What are the differences? According to adverts: Frequencies: China model: FM: 70.0MHz - 108.0MHz (step is 50KHz/100KHz) MW & LW: 150KHz - 1640KHz (step is 1KHz/9KHz) SW: 3000KHz - 29999KHz (step is 1KHz/5KHz) US model: 1. AM: 140 Khz -520Khz ( Long Wave), 520 KHz- 1710Khz ( MW) 2. FM Stereo: 70Mhz- 88.0Mhz ( Low FM), 88.00Mhz - 108 MHz( Upper FM) 3. SW: 3000 KHz - 29,999 KHz 6. NOAA Weather Band : Channel 1 - Channel 7. German model: Long wave: 50 kHz - 521 kHz! Medium wave: 522 - 1719 kHz Short wave: 1700 kHz - 29.999 MHz UKW: 70 - 108 MHz menus in German The models are likely identical hardware with different firmware versions so I wonder if the China model can be: a) tuned by keypad into the extended LW, MW, SW and NOAA ranges of the others b) firmware upgraded by the software for one of the other models (eg - the thiecom site has their software) Tom |

Otherwise it makes no sense for someone in the U.S. to buy a radio that doesn't tune the MW band in 1 and 10khz steps up to 1710 khz. Has anyone asked the seller if there is a setting to allow full coverage? The DE1103 includes the correct coverage for USA so I'm sure Degen is aware of the issue. I wonder if this isn't a limitation created to satisfy Kaito USA. |

He he, you think the Communist Party manufacturers are so stupid?

****. I hate it when I take the time to write a 15-line post and it
gets destroyed whil on Google transit. Well, never mind. |

DE1121 has SSB - looks same as DE1103 with fine tuned BFO and
selectable 4/6kHz filters. What will be interesting is whether they widened the BFO range so you can get a 3kHz offset which is more suited for SSB and ECSS with the '4' kHz filter which is probably closer to 5kHz wide at -6dB. lsmyer wrote: And here's his incredibly quick reply: The MW band is from 520KHz to 1710KHz, the step on MW band is 1KHz or 10KHz optional. Don't support the NOAA (weather band) in DE1121. Best Regards, - Tao Qu I had similar reply to similar questions: 1. Can your version tune a) down to 50kHz? b) between 1640 and 3000kHz? c) to the 162MHz NOAA frequencies? 2. Can it tune in 1/9/10kHz steps on the MW band? 3. Is it firmware upgradable? Who supplies the upgrades? Reply: Hello, #1. can not down to 50KHz. #2. only 520KHz to 1710KHz. #3. no NOAA. #4. 1KHz or 10KHz in MW band only. #5. yes, firmware upgradable, customer can upgrade the machine via PC USB interface, we can help on this. - Tao Qu |
