Why does my 7600GR scan and stop at stations with seemingly no broadcasts on it?

Hi. When I put my 7600GR in scan mode, on several meter bands it stops
frequently, often at small intervals, but there is no broadcast that I
can hear on these stations. The only thing i hear is a loud noise,
although the receiver reads "tuned" and the sync lock has locked onto
this noise. What is going on here?

You have a broadband local noise source causing interference. The source
could be a light dimmer, TV, or computer. There are other possibilities
for noise sources. Take the radio outside away from the house and it
will probably act better.
