Why? Let me count the ways:
1. The bbc streams at about 20k and sounds very good
2. It is free from fading, static, interference, and hiss.
3. The bbc web site offers a wide variety of programs.
4. It is free.
5. It is available 24/7

But it sure as hell ain't shortwave!

You may run along now.
