OT - What is the winter weather where you are? USA? Europe? Asia?

We are having the strangest winter that my 48 years can recall.

I am in Peterborough in somewhat southern Ontario, Canada and the temp
hit 12C (55F) today. Our norm should be -3C. There is no snow of
course. January is typically our coldest month.

Some are blaming global warming but GW takes years to change the
weather.

I heard this week that Mexico had snow.

I am hoping there are people here from other parts of the world that
can indicate what kind of winter they are having. Normal or weird?

I am about 300 miles north of you in Algoma and for the first time on
record there is no snow and the temperature is 45f. The winter resorts
that usually are busy with skidoos and skis are closed with a loss of
revenue and tourism. Some blame this on the effect of el nino but the
breaking away of the Ellesmere ice shelf shows that something big is
going on. Ice cores show that climate change can come about quickly: a
couple of winters like this and it would be time to move away from the
shore. While Ontario and the east have been having a mild winter, the
west coast and mountains have been clobbered. Perhaps others will have
reports of unusual weather.

Southern England, 51 deg N, 1 deg W, 2006 was the warmest year on
record. Right now, 00.00 hrs GMT, the outside temperature is 45 deg
F, last night it did not go below 50. This is silly weather - we
have had one frost this winter.

All the evidence points to human activity and the likelihood that it
too late to stop some major incidents. For instance, I would not
fancy my chances if I were a polar bear or if I lived on an island
in the middle of the Pacific.

So far, Seattle has had record storms and record cold. Record snow in the
mountains around Seattle.

It started raining here yesterday at about 11:30 AM,the rain came down
harder and harder. It finally lightened up at about 11:00 PM.I have never
seen it rain so much and so hard and long during a twenty four period
here in my life before. There was at least one tornado yesterday that
destroyed some homes.Off and on yesterday,I was losing my DirectTV
signal because of the weather. If all of that rain had been snow, this
area would have been buried in at least four feet of snow,in opinion.

The snow (heavy snow) in the plains and western areas will be good for
the farmers later on in the springtime.

I'm not taking sides for or against global warming, but just trying to
follow your reasoning...

a) How do you know this?

b) If it -is- true (does take years), how do you know this -hasn't- been
brewing for years?

Very nice day here in Denver

has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't
enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a
crime that it becomes impossible to live without breaking laws."

And just think when in the 1970's we experienced one of the coldest series
of winters on record. The propaganda of the Neo-Kommies at the time was a
new ice-age cometh - BWAHAHAHA!!!

We've all been hearing about GW and there are changes happening. There
is a lot less snow than when I was a kid. It is unusual for us to hit
-20C when 25 years ago -30C was common and I didn't know if the car
would start or not in the morning. But these changes have been gradual.

You're complaining about lower heating bills? (scratching head)

The weather this winter, here anyways, has been blamed on "el nino" and
the northern position of the jet stream allowing the warmer air from
the Gulf of Mexico to visit us.

Happens every so often - yep.

There has only been a 100+ years of accurate weather data to analyse
which isn't enough to really see if this GW warming is a cycle or not.

Don't bother trying to explain science and statistics to Neo-Kommies. They
are brainwashed and can not comprehend anything but "It's President Bush's
fault".

Remember the talk in the 70's of the next ice age coming?

Imagine how warm it would be today if we did something about it.

What this warm weather has done is get the GW people more active

You mean is has the anti-capitalist Neo-Kommies more active.

and
the Canadian Government has this week shifted its priorities to more
address the environment.

Oh pahleeeeeeze.

A poll released yesterday indicates that the Ontario population is more
concerned about the environment than our health system which is in a
mess.

Don't bother trying to explain science and statistics to the brainwashed
masses.

Ya - warming is happening but this is just weird weather.

Brian

Now that is a piece of solid scientific fact we can all chew on...
and spit out 30 years hence in total disgust.
