Recently, I was listening to an analog radio and found myself longing
for the digital signals of the same stations and also wondering what
was playing on the HD2 stations. However, I haven't noticed any
interference on either AM or FM. My big complaint is that at night,
some of the HD stations seem to get weaker and I can't receive them
anymore.

Correction: at night, some of the HD2 stations get weaker and I can't
hear them anymore.

Currently most if not all stations turn off the digital signal at dusk.

It is during the daytime I can't hear distant stations anymore because
of the digital crap.

Digital {HD} Radio Emerges Into The Future {Will You Be Listening ?}

Digital {HD} Radio Emerges Into The Future {Will You Be Listening ?}

-by- Paul Davidson - USA TODAY -Updated 8/23/2005

After getting a lackluster rollout from both radio stations and
manufacturers last year, digital radio is finally gaining some
traction. Hundreds of radio stations have gone digital in recent
months, and retailers are starting to offer digital radios for homes as
well as cars.

Digital radio can revitalize AM stations by making them sound like
analog FM, and can juice up FM stations with CD-quality sound. Perhaps
more significantly, the digitized signal can be compressed to let FM
stations broadcast at least one or two additional channels at the same
frequency. Digital radios also display a song's title and artist on a
small screen.

AM/FM radio is somewhat belatedly following cell phones, music, cameras
and TVs in the march toward digital.

It costs a radio station $100,000 or so to add a digital transmitter,
vs. the $2 million or more to add digital to a TV station.

By the end of 2008, 2,000 of the USA's 13,500 radio stations are
scheduled to go digital, covering 95% of the listening audience, says
Robert Struble, CEO of iBiquity, which developed and licenses the HD
Radio technology and whose investors include 15 big radio broadcasters.

Of course, stations will crank out their analog signals as well for
many years.
