i thought i heard glenn hauser say that NHK is stopping its English
broadcasts -- is this true (sadly)?

Yes I'm afraid they are, they (NHK) have just posted a message on this
newsgroup. Effective Oct. 1 2007 they are dropping many services
including the english broadcast to North America. This is too bad, as
I will miss them.
