I have some older computers of various brand names and some no name
computers.A few of them are Apple and Machintosh computers.Mac/Apple
computers can't do anywhere nearly as much as Windows computers can
do.Why do you think most of the World uses Windows computers?

Macs are capable of doing anything a PC can do, it's just that there
aren't enough Macs in the world to bother with writing the software for
them. That's why Macs don't have problems with viruses. No one wastes
their time programming a virus for less than ten percent of the world's
computers. Apple shot themselves in the foot many years ago when they
refused to allow other manufacturers to make Mac clones. There actually
was a company in Texas that tried it for a while but they went out of
business because of the exorbitantly high royalties they had to pay to
Apple for the 'privilege' of making a Mac, combined with having to buy
all the hardware through Apple too.

True!

Apple shot themselves in the foot many years ago when they
refused to allow other manufacturers to make Mac clones.

Probably, but I believe an even bigger reason they shot themselves in
the foot was that they forgot what they learned with the Apple II
series...namely, open architecture, expansion slots and a *ton* of third
party hardware to fit those slots.

When the first few iterations of the Mac came out...closed architecture
and *no* expansion slots. It was their way or the highway.

IBM, when they first got in the PC business, (wisely) -did- provide
expansion slots and open architecture.

opener spelled backwards = renepo, google it.

Sounds like BS to me.

Apple denies Opener/Renepo is a worm, Trojan, or any type of virus

Added: November 02, 2004

Silicon.com reported Tuesday that Apple denies Renepo/Opener is a worm
or virus.

Although Renepo/Opener can certainly cause damage, Apple is stating in
the strongest terms that: "Opener is not a virus, Trojan horse, or worm.
It does not propagate itself across a network, through email, or over
the web. Opener can only be installed by someone who already has access
to your system and provides proper administrator authentication. Apple
advises users to only install software from vendors and websites that
they know and trust."

Of course this malware does attempt to replicate and spread so it's
difficult to see why it wouldn't be termed both a worm and a virus
since a worm is simply a certain kind of virus according to many
definitions. Posted by: John McCormick Visit John's online answer guide

I don't use a Mac, just remember hearing about this some time back

Yeah, the story is a little over 2 years old. OS10 is no different than
Windows in that there have been a number of security updates over time
as vulnerabilities have been found just not as many.

There is no virus, trojans, worms currently in the wild that effect Macs. Period.

Period.

I'm not aware of any but you must realize that the many security updates
addressed a weakness in the OS that could have been exploited by such.

That have yet to ever be exploited. It's called better safe than sorry.
Unlike Microsuck who even after it's users report flaws they ignore it
for MONTHS until they have a patch ready.
