Well Folks,
I see that WABC, WOR and WFAN 770, 710 and 660 are broadcasting IBOC at
7:30PM tonight. I like to BCB DX and I have found that nulling out the
IBOC sidebands is easy to do since they are weaker than the main signal.

Using my GE Superradio II I just turn the receiver to a null and perfect
copy +- 10khz. I am very close to New York City and the NJ Meadowlands
where the signals all originate and it is not too hard to get a null. As
signals pickup later into the evening from the skippers I have good copy.

Now for my formal DX setup using the Horizontal pennant antenna with the
DC null adjuster pointed towards New York I can very easily create deep
nulls on the IBOC sidebands both plus and minus. So for home listening and
DXing IBOC really does not seem to be a problem at night for me. For the
avid DX'er just build a pennant antenna or get a directional loop.

Driving cross country at night still has to be tried and I suspect that
may be a little trickier. I suggest giving it a try to see that the IBOC
signals do in fact null without to much difficulty.

Steve,

I was not sure whether he was talking about good old
Analog AM/MW Radio reception over IBOC Interference
-or- IBOC AM Radio reception inspite of IBOC Adjacent
Channel Interference ? ? ? ~ RHF

I think we have a new form of dx'ing; "iboc, iboc, who'se got the
iboc?"
For example, this morning, around 8:00 eastern time, I was trying to
listen to 1040, WHO Des Moines, about 500 miles to the west and the
signal was half-covered by a waterfall. I tuned to 1020,1030,1050, and
1060 and there were only very weak signals, well below the level of
the iboc hash. Where was it coming from? and why was it so strong?
Enquiring minds want to know.

RickaTTic,

OK - Please 'clarify' this for me
are you using this technique to :

DX the Analog AM/MW Radio Stations ?

-or- DX the "HD" AM/MW Radio Stations ?

And -if- the two Radio Satations are basically in the same
direction from your location - How does this help ?

Plus -if- you are within the Ground Wave of the Interfering
Radio Station - Again - How does this help ?

i want to know ~ RHF

Yes, but we're in summer hours, so 7:30 p.m. is still daytime. That
means you can still run IBOC. Sometimes in the summer, I don't think
the IBOC AM stations didn't switch off until 8 p.m. or 8:30.

P.S.: AM 66 and AM 88 do not originate from the Meadowlands -- they're
located at High Island in the Bronx (near City Island).

Well my inside loop is not movable so a I guess I'm screwed unless I buy
a small loop antenna I can turn.

What he and other ANALog Ideologs are trying to tell you in their own
"special" way is that the IBOC sounds that they hear on their ANALog radio
is a direct affect of the use of an inferior radio or the use of an
inappropriate filter.
