NiMH and Sangean DT200V
 

Have a strange problem with Sangean DT200V. Radio is great but I can
only use one type of AA NiMH rechargeable - older Powerizer 2000 MaH.
With newer and higher current AA's (eg., Sony 2500 MaH) radio don't
turn on (The DT200V has electronic on switch). Is there something in
the Sangean that senses the differences in batteries?

Check the voltage of each type with a DMM.

As long as the voltage of the batteries is the same, it should make no
difference. Does it have a charger built in for NiMH batteries as well?

Note that AA NiMH such as the Sony are rated at 1.2V while alkalines
and other non-rechargeables put out 1.5V. Perhaps the Sangean needs a
minimum voltage to turn on, something closer to what the lower powered
NiMH generate. I have not yet measured the actual voltages under
load.

Yes I realize that but you were talking about old and new NiMH batteries,
one set being 2000 mAh and the new ones bing 2500 mAh. If it was working
with the 2000 mAh NiMH batteries, there should be no problem using the 2500
mAh batteries as long as they have the same rated voltage. If for some very
strange reason the v out of the batteries is different under load, then that
may be what is causing the problem. In that case, I would make a
distinction, in my opinion, that the new batteries are not infact working
according to the claimed specifications. You can measure the load voltage
presumeably by going across the battery terminals with a dvm while the radio
is on and do a comparison, or in this case have someone hold the power
button down while you attempt to measure the voltage. It could be you have
a bad battery, or just plain old junk batteries, or some that as I said
before, not performing to the claimed specs. In that case, I would return
them and find a better brand of battery.

A few weeks ago I was going to buy a little wireless camera at the Wal
Mart store.Untill I looked on the back of the package.It has a Li--on
battery in the camera,so I changed my mind.Those are the kind of
batteries that catch fire and burn down houses.I don't want anything,no
matter what it is,in my house that has those house burner down batteies
in it.

The Taiwan (China) made Sangean does not like Sony (Japan)
made Batteries - Best to buy a set of Batteries made in China.

AA BATTERY TESTING IN SANGEAN DT200-VX RADIO :

Test Radio : Sangean DT200VX the newer "X" version.

First - I started with Two good old "Hecho en E.U.A."
Rayovac "AA" Batería Alcalino dated DEC 2014 and
the Radio worked A-OK !
Note = Battery Indicator [HHH} = 3-Bars and these
Batteries are Votlage Rated at 1.5 VDC and the mAh
rating is unknown.
[X] FM Radio reception is A-OK !
[X] AM/MW Radio reception is A-OK !
[ ] TV-Sound = None * Hey cause I am

Next - I installed Two "Energizer" Re-Chargeable NiMH
AA Batteries Votage Rated at 1.2 VDC and 2500 mAh
and labeled as "High Energy" that are "Made in Japan"

all these Batteries are Voltage Rated at 1.2 VDC.

all these Batteries are Voltage Rated at 1.2 VDC.
