I got duped, and it's my own fault. I bought a Grundig S350 because the
Grundig name was on it. Somehow I missed the Eton part on it as well.
It is remarkably underwhelming. So now I'm looking for something more
substantial. The ICOM IC-R75 looks like a decent unit, at least judging
by specs. Before I plunk down the cash, can someone with experience
with the ICOM IC-R75 comment on it's performance?

Thanks,

I know it's bad form to reply to your own post, but this is easier than
replying to everyone individually.

1. Someone mentioned that the R75 tends to sound "muffled." Is that
also the case when using headphones?

2. I would like to be able to listen to aircraft, military (if there's
any I can pick up locally), have access to SSB, etc. as well as plain
old SW, but the S350 just doesn't do it all.

3. When buying used anything, not just electronics, I've had very mixed
results. I prefer to buy new.

4. I read the review at http://www.radiointel.com/review-etone1.htm
yesterday. If you read all the reviews, some rave about it, some hate
it. I don't hate it, I'm simply unimpressed.

I do not know what it would take to impress you then. The E1 looks to be
an excellent radio by the reviews and specifications. I already posted
the link to the operating and specification pdf.

For around $500 you could buy an E1 that works out of the box or a R75
that needs to be modified to work right. If you are interested in a R75
buy a used one that has the Kiwa modifications installed.

You still have not posted the type of listening you want to do. If it is
program listening then buy the E1.
