Sony sw77 problem
Hi all
I have a Sony sw-77 and it appears to be acting up. It seems to have a problem in the power dept, now I'm not sure if it's because of the batteries, as I have cheap things in it at the moment, but its still the same with the ac power supply fitted, it sort of crackles and goes quiet for a few seconds, then sometimes it sounds as if it drifts off frequency, but then it comes back again, it is an intermittant problem, but very annoying, any ideas anyone please tia Clive |

Clive Clive, I as many of the "so called experts" on the list would be more then happy to help you when people have had time to read your question, a lot of people are away for the weekend and jus haven't got back. How, sense you want to be a smart ass I for one don't care if you every find out how to fix your radio, take it to a shop. Burr |

I think it could be a problem with the voltage stabilizer, as it sort of goes haywire from time to time, getting the same symptoms you get when batteries are running low, also it goes ballistic when you push the light button. I have tried 2 sets of brand new batteries in, and also with the mains adapter plugged in, but the problem remains regards Clive |

Further investigation I think is needed It could also be a poor (resistive) connection in the wires/traces supplying the power. I would try resoldering the power jack, first thing. The frequent problems you find when fixing stuff are simple. First the connectors, then capacitors, and then you get to the more esoteric problems. It had worked its way loose and was only about half way on the connector at an angle, I simply pushed it on the connector properly and now its working fine. I found out that these wires from the connector run parralell with the batteries in the same compartmant, they had come away from the sticky tape stuff they use to hold them in place out of the way of the batteries, so over time when I was re-newing the batteries the sides of the batteries were pulling these wires downwards slightly, causing the other end where the block connector is to slowly come of the connector. I put fresh tape on the wires and taped them out of the way of the batteries, Everything is now working perfect. I am glad to say. Its been running now for 18 hours without a glitch :-)) regards Clive |
