Depending on the features and performance it could have promise. I
have to wask one question though. Why does the manufacturer of these
radios keep puting handles on the front of the radio? The only
reason I can think of is to make it look like a serious rack mount
receiver.

Had a Tecsun for 2 months. Sold it on e-Bay.
It was the most over-rated piece of crap radio
I've come across in some time. Best of all the
sucker who bought it from me on e-Bay paid
me $5 more than I paid for it. Ha-Ha!

Handles on the front:

1) It makes it easier to move around on the top of a table. (Get settled
into the chair, turn the radio on, and slide it into the perfect position
for band cruising).
2) Protects the front of the radio from bumps and bruises. Especially
useful for radios that are taller than they are deep, like the RF-2900.
Those handles have saved many a faceplate.
3) Allows you to set the radio down on it's face for service, if needed.
Not always appropriate depending on the dissassembly, but very useful with
some radios.

Roadie,

What the Chinese Radio Manufacturing Industry
{PRC-CHINA INC.} needs to do is learn from Sony.

Build some AM/FM Shortwave Radio 'specific' IC Chips
that have Selectable SSB and AM-SYNC as a built-in
feature. This would greatly reduce the cost of design
and manufacture of Shortwave Radio and offer a Better
Product at a Lower Price. Why with these types of
Chips even the common AM/FM Radio could have
AM-SYNC - Imagine a GE Superadio with AM-SYNC ?

~ RHF

Agree. My take so far on the Chinese radios I've seen and read about
is that they have some very good ideas, but they don't fully think
through the development of the entire product. The goofy memory setup
on the Degen DE1103 and the omission of an AM loop antenna on the Eton
E1 are examples of fundamental mistakes that keep two otherwise
excellent radios from being truly first class.

- I don't know if it is a rush to production, not knowing their
audience
- or what that causes such lapses. In many respects the Eton E1
- is close to a dream radio, but a swivel antenna for AM listening
- keeps me from buying it.

Roadie,

Do you own a Car or Truck ?

Most of them have a Whip Antenna -and- most people
think that and Auto's AM/MW Radio 'reception' is as
good or in-fact better that most home Radios.

The Eyon E1 Radio's AM/MW Radio reception is as
good -if- not better then many other AM/FM Shortwave
Radios.

C'mon RHF... Sure if you put up an omni-directional whip antenna you
will get lots of signals. The point being a ferrite antennna gives
you some chance of nulling. At least one review mentioned this as a
significant shortcoming.

So the otherwise high-performing and really well designed Eton E1
delivers pleasant sounding audio in AM with only limited opportunity
to null out offending signals. Considering that the E1 is an
enthusiasts radio that is a significant limitation.

The S2000 is a good looking radio.

It's tough to tell from the pictures, but I didn't see a sync button
