AT&T/Western Electric rejected the call letters WDAM for its NYC station in 1922 and got the next (in alphabetical order) available call, Western Electric/AT&T rejected the assigned call for its NYC station in 1922, WDAM. It got the next available call sign (in alphabetical order), WEAF. This later became the flagship station of the NBC Red Network.
