"The final decision to discontinue DeSoto was announced on November 30,
1960, just forty-seven days after the 1961 models were introduced

At the time, Chrysler warehouses contained several million dollars in 1961
DeSoto parts, so the company ramped up production in order to use up the
stock."

DeSotos - There Were Beasts ~ RHF

Not sure which kind of beast you were referring to but they ran some
big hemi motors in those beastly De Soto cars. The DeSoto brand was
killed for several reasons, one of which it was not easily
distinguished from Dodge and Plymouth in consumers eyes.

I've had the opportunity to drive a variety of older Chrysler products
including a 1936 Chrysler Airflow, 1941 Plymouth and a 1949 Dodge but
not a DeSoto.

Hey Roadie,
I own a 1940 Chrysler Royal coupe and used to own a 1949 Chrysler
Windsor. Both with Fluid Drive. Would love to get a 46-48 DeSoto,
beautiful waterfall grill!

Yep, I like those DeSoto waterfall grills too, I always have.Nowadays,
all of the cars look exactly just like each other cars, they SUCK! When
I was in the Army at Scott Air Force Base,Illinois in 1963, I bought a
1950 Dodge four door car, six cylinder with fluid drive transmission,
for $75.00 (that's what I said, for $75.00,,, seventy five dollars) at a
used car dealership in Saint Louis. The car dealer guy said somebody else
wants to buy the car for $95.00.I told him, Well, let him buy the car
then, seventy five dollars is all I have.I bought the car and I started
driving West on I-44 to Pacific,Missouri (about eight miles South of
Pacific was our SL 60, Charley Battery, Nike Nuclear Missiles site) and
to SL 60.

Going up those long grades on I-44, the car engine started wheezing and
steaming.I pulled over and I looked.Someone had ran that car over
something that had knocked a hole in the bottom of the radiator (right
in the middle) and plugged the hole with a piece of wood.I got ahold of
some water and I made it back to SL 60.I took the radiator off and a guy
gave me a ride to Saint Louis to get the radiator repaired.I can still
hear those old narrow high center of gravity tires right now squealing
around and up and down those hills and curves between Pacific and SL 60.

By the way, looka here.I got an email today from that married Irish
woman (married to that Irish guy) in Bognor Regis,England. She has a new
company car to drive.Fiat Grande Punto 1400.(the 1400 stands for 1.4
liter engine) She said it has an automatic transmission and a lot of
other nice features. Her previous company car was a 2007 Vauxhall Astra
Estate car with a manual shift transmission, she hated that Vauxhall
car.She loves her new Fiat car. www.devilfinder.com Fiat Grande
Punto 1400

Site personnel (hope you're newsreader can navigate long threads).

Herriot's books, she is a big fan of Herriot.Herriot was a pen name he
used, he passed away years ago) Anyway, I emailed her and I asked her
what has become of that old Nike site near Pacific. She said she wasen't
sure, but she thinks it turned into an edcuation center.I reckon she is
right, It is nowadays Meremac elementary school and they park some
school buses there.
