more or less of a slam against so-called "typical" hams rather than
self-effacing humor.

Sorry, but any reference to -you- in there was weak or unclear, so
that's probably why I didn't take it as self-effacing humor. Also,
unless someone went to a separate site to look it up, you made NO
reference to your age; unfortunately, the lack of those two reference
points made it difficult for others to divine that it was "self-effacing".
