Using the Whip {Telescopic} Antenna on a 'portable' AM/FM Shortwave Radio

For One and All,
.
Using the Whip {Telescopic} Antenna on a 'portable' AM/FM Shortwave
Radio.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Shortw.../message/14587
.
The Whip Antenna :
The 'fully extended' {Seven-Section} Whip Antenna on the
Redsun RP2100 Radio measures 44 Inches (112 cm) Tip-to-Base.
.
Shortwave Radio and the Whip Antenna :
Most of the time for Shortwave Radio Listening the Whip Antenna
should be 'fully extended'.
.
Tip - Ideally the Radio should be placed next to a Window so
you get the most RF Signal and least household RFI Noise.
.
FM Radio :
When only Six-of-the-Seven Sections of the Whip Antenna on the
Redsun RP2100 Radio are extended the Whip measures 36 Inches
(91.5 cm) Tip-to-Base. [Top Section Not Extended]
.
When only Five-of-the-Seven Sections of the Whip Antenna on the
Redsun RP2100 Radio are extended the Whip measures 32 5/8 Inches
(83 cm) Tip-to-Base. [Top Two Sections Not Extended]
.
When only Four-of-the-Seven Sections of the Whip Antenna on the
Redsun RP2100 Radio are extended the Whip measures 26 5/8 Inches
(67.5 cm) Tip-to-Base. [Top Three Sections Not Extended]
.
Tip - For FM Radio Reception a 1/4 WL Antenna is about 31.9" to
33.6". So when you extend 'only' Five-of-the-Seven Sections of
the Whip Antenna on the Redsun RP2100 Radio the Whip is 'about'
the Right Length for Optimum FM Radio Reception "In Theory".
.
YMMV - This is of course dependent on your location and that
location's relationship to the FM Radio Stations that your are
trying to Receive and Listen to.
.
Tip - Tilting the Whip Antenna and Rotating the Whip Antenna
all can help or hinder getting a better FM Radio Signal.
.
-Note- Usually 'tilting' the Whip Antenna and Rotating the
Whip Antenna has less effect on Shortwave Radio Reception
-but- Sometimes it can help to reduce some household RFI Noise.
.
-Again- Moving the Radio with the Whip Antenna 'fully extended'
closer-to or directly-in-front-of a Window seems to be the
best signal thing to do when Listening to Shortwave Radio
Off-the-Whip Antenna.
.
FWIW {IMHO} - These comments apply to most 'portable' AM/FM
Shortwave Radios when using their Whip Antennas.

- Hi. The 2100 has a massive antenna.
-
- However, it seems to work best when it's not unfolded all the way.
-
- What have been your results, both with fm and sw?
-
- Let's assume we are talking about the built in antenna alone,
- without the use of an external antenna.
