Radio: Internet Radio or HD Radio. You choose!

"Radio: Internet Radio or HD Radio. You choose!"

The first video is a pitch from Ford for their new optional SYNC,
which, among many other things, allows one to listen to any Internet
Radio from anywhere in the world.

The second video comes from an actual HD Radio test drive
demonstration in the Chicago market. The only thing lacking was a
station playing Bruce Springsteen's "57 Channels (And Nothin' On)."

I searched in vain for a Ford pitch video on HD Radio but, wisely,
they didn't do one.

Which one would you rather have? SYNC or HD Radio?

What would you want your company to be allied with? SYNC or HD Radio?

Here's the choice - supplementary channels of varied audio quality
from the same radio chains that deliver today's unimaginative
terrestrial radio formats or worldwide radio of every imaginable
format and style where the passion is in the performance?

(I know I'm stacking the deck and swaying your decision - but, please
understand. I never have and never want to be associated or connected
with any current HD Radio product from Ibiquity and the HD Radio
alliance.)

Let's say you're one of the rarified few that actually found what you
believe to be a half-decent HD Radio channel. Chances are you'll find
the same exact station streaming on line - and considering it's a side
channel - it'll probably sound better on- line than on an HD Radio.
And you won't lose the signal when you're driving by tall buildings or
near hills and mountains.

Amazing, isn't it. The HD Radio Alliance filled the unreservedly
worthless job of running the joint with the unreservedly useless Sgt.
Bilk-o, ex of Clear Channel where he was just as pathetic.

How can he knowingly subject the radio industry to further traumatic
events?

Can't wait for the blame game to begin. It didn't happen because.....

I wonder how Sgt. Bilk-o sleeps at night knowing that while the iPod
will go down in history as one of the most effective marketing
campaigns since Windows - HD Radio's will be forever enshrined as
number one in the High Tech Hall of Shame.

And we used to be convinced that the failures of Circuit City's DiVX
DVDs, the CueCat, and the Eyetop Wearable DVD Player could never be
topped?

Maybe the sanctimonious Sgt. Bilk-o can recycle the excuses for the
failures of AM Stereo and FM Quad - except that even they were more
successful in reaching consumers than his folly.

At this stage, Sgt. Bilk-o has to be wondering what, if anything, will
mark his time on earth.

Maybe he's asking himself who will mourn HD Radio's passing.

And, most of all, who'll apologize for the time and money spent, the
years the radio industry bought into it, and the deceitfulness
suffered because of Ibiquity and the HD Radio Alliance's misguidance.

There are *already* alternatives that do not require a separate home
network.

It's important to be realistic about this. It is trivially easy to
stream audio over the internet. It doesn't require transmitters, huge
antennas or similar investments. The internet itself provides
everything you need.

And from the listener's point of view, you can hear absolutely
everything you hear via HD radio or any other kind of radio, plus
about a million additional things as well.

Furthermore, we all know that the internet isn't going anywhere.
Despite the ridiculous predictions of some, the internet is not going
to disappear tomorrow. This means that internet 'radio' is in for the
long haul.

Wimax is coming to be deployed more and more and this, again, is
unstoppable since innumerable forms of personal and commercial
business will benefit from it. As Wimax becomes more prevalent, the
practicality of portable internet radios increases.

Plus, listening via the internet doesn't require you to destroy a vast
swath of AM spectrum. It doesn't require you to do anything except sit
back and enjoy.

I will always prefer free, over the airwaves radio as well, but right
now internet radio is the best friend the AM listener has because it
spells certain doom for HD radio.

I choose FREE over-the-air broadcasts anytime. I refuse to pay for
radio the same as I refuse to pay for tv. Those who wish to throw
your money away on satellite radio or cable tv have that privilege. I
prefer to spend my money on other things.

It's nice to be able to have a portable radio you can carry from room
to room, or to the garage, or even in the back yard, not to mention
taking a radio with you to the park, or anywhere else you might go.
And it won't be long before the inexpensive portable HD radios start
showing up on the market.

It amazes me just how many crybabies there are on this forum. I think
it would be enough to just state your position and then LET IT GO.

"And it won't be long before the inexpensive portable HD radios start

That won't help the sagging HD Radio sales:

"HD Radio and the 'myth' of price"

"We, as an industry, should not assume that lowering the price of HD
radios will remove the primary obstacle to the technology's success.
Not until someone convinces us they know what those primary obstacles
are."

http://www.hear2.com/2006/05/hd_radio_and_th.html

Word has already gotten out about HD Radio and it isn't pretty:

"Is HD Radio Toast?"

"There are serious issues of coverage. Early adopters who bought HD
radios report serious drop-outs, poor coverage, and interference. The
engineers of Ibiquity may argue otherwise and defend the system, but
the industry has a serious PR problem with the very people we need to
get the word out on HD... In New York City, the #1 market in the
country, there are 25 stations broadcasting 42 HD channels. You'll
find CHR, AC, Classic Rock, Hip-Hop, News, Talk, and Sports. In other
words, everything you can find on the regular FM dial... The word has
already gotten out about HD Radio. People who have already bought an
HD Radio are telling others of their experience (mostly bad) and no
amount of marketing will reverse this."

That only leaves the NON-commercial internet radio which is, frankly,

Wrong. There are plenty of commercial internet radio stations.

Name a few.

Sure, I can read, but something's being read doesn't make it TRUE,

(sigh). I made a simple request: Name a few Internet stations (not FM
or AM stations), that are commercial.

Are you not capable of doing that? Do you want to retract your
statement, "There are plenty of [non-FM or AM] commercial internet
radio stations," as false?- Hide quoted text -

I guess WOXY would be one example.

From Wikipedia:

WOXY.com, "the future of rock and roll," is an Internet-only
alternative, independent, and freeform rock and roll radio station
based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Previously known as 97X (WOXY-FM, at 97.7
FM), the station was one of the first in the United States to
completely transition from terrestrial FM radio to broadcasting solely
as an Internet radio station.[1]

Next?

Oh, and by the way, if anyone wanted to they could setup their own
internet radio station in an afternoon and sell advertising. Talk
about low overhead!

From ubroadcast.com:

Can I make money with ubroadcast?
Yes! In addition to advertising your own product or service, and
linking listeners to your web site that sells products, you can sell
"commercial" space to Local, National or International sponsors of
your choice. You determine what to charge for these commercials and
how often they play on your station.

Have you ever even surfed the web, you idiot?
