Broadcast station in Franz Josef Land?
I don't suppose anyone here knows if there are any broadcast stations in
Franz Josef Land? (yes, it's a real place...) The station in Alert, Canada has gone off the air and surrendered its license. If there is a station in FJL, it would now be the world's northernmost. (if not, the title would go to one of the two stations in Qaanaaq, Greenland) |

The world's northernmost AM broadcast station as far as I know is NRK Longyearbyen, Svalbard, located roughly at 78deg 13min N, 15deg 39min E. (1485 kHz, 1kW), which is around 50 minutes further north than Thule/Qaanaaq. I believe there are NRK FM repeaters in Ny- Ålesund, Svalbard, on 78deg 55min N. NRK = Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. BM Recently there has been an amateur radio station transmitting from Franz Josef Land on some of the different amateur allocations. Otherwise, I don't know if I have ever seen anything from there either in some of the publications or even the net. |
