Sat 800 Question,

I am monitoring 5220.2 USB and it is very static until the SYNC

If the radio gets quiet with the sync on it is either locking on a
carrier or a internal birdie. What do you have on the S meter?

What are you trying to hear? If it's SSB turn off the sync and use slow
AGC. If it's AM put the AGC on fast and I wound still turn the sync off
until you get a signal then turn it on.

BURR "The Trop-e-Cal Man !",

The AM-SYNC on the Grundig Satellit 800-M Radio is
'selectable'. You can 'choose' either USB or LSB.

So 'if' you are attempting to Monitor 5220.2 kHz on USB;
after you engage the AM SYNC you then should ensure that
you have selected [LISB] Upper-Side-Band versus [L SB]
Lower-Side-Band.

NOTE - The "USB" Icon in the LCD of the Grundig Satellit
800-M Radio appears to be the letters 'LISB'.

The next thing to consider is the Filter Selection.
? Were you using the the 2.3 kHz IF Filter with USB ?
? Which IF Filter were you using with AM-SYNC ?

Here in Twain Harte, CA at 07:50 UTC on 5220.2 kHz
using a Grundig Satellit 800-M Radio :

* USB using the 2.3 kHz IF Filter there is a distinct
High Pitched Whistle with an S-Meter reading of S7.

* LSB using the 2.3 kHz IF Filter there is a Low Pitched
Tone with an S-Meter reading of S5.

* AM using the 4.0 kHz IF Filter there is just a background
band noise level of S7 on the S-Meter.

* AM-SYNC selecting USB and using the 2.3 kHz IF Filter
there is just presistant Medium Pitched Tone with an
S-Meter reading of S7.

* AM-SYNC selecting LSB and using the 2.3 kHz IF Filter
there is a Low Pitched Tone with an S-Meter reading of S7
-but- after about a minute the Tone begins to fade and
then there is 'Silence' still with an S-Meter reading of
S7.

08:10 UTC - hope this helps ~ RHF
