I keep reading here things like shortwave broadcasting is going away.
But the new QST has a report on an international radio conference
where they say the broadcasters are trying to get more frequencies
in the HF region. So what is going on?

SWBC here in Region 2 is going away. It may still make sense elsewhere
(though I doubt that very seriously) but not in the Americas.

What you are witnessing is the eternal battle between the clueless and
reality. SWBC is not going away anytime soon in any region.

The Clueless being David

The Reality that while Shortwave Radio Broadcasting is in
a decline; it still is an effective way for Governments
and NGOs to "Get Their Message Out" to the majority of
People around the World that do not have the Internet and
can not afford a PC and Internet Connection.

Third World is still very much Free Over-the-Air Radio
where many still do not have a TV and AM & FM Radio
Stations are few and far between; and all Media is often
controlled by the local Government as a Propaganda Tool.

IMHO - Shortwave Radio Broadcasting still is the
Voice of Freedom with News and Information that
Crosses Borders : Unfiltered By local Governments.
