"Let's say that radio companies have to start paying royalties on the music that they play. Even if it is a flat percentage of all revenue like other outlets are going to be charged, HD Radio streams would do nothing more than serve to drive up royalty payments for NAB members. The overwhelming majority of terrestrial listeners ARE NOT listening to HD Radio. Ads on HD Radio will be dirt cheap for a very long time. The HD streams may not be able to cover royalty on music from ad revenues. Do you think that Clear Channel will continue to pump money in to HD Radio equipment, expanding services and coverage if the payoff in the end is an INCREASE in copyright royalties and nothing more?" http://dualsub.wordpress.com/2007/11...kill-hd-radio/ |

Second, copyrights should be abolished. They act to suppress creativiity rather than promote it, they go against nature, and they violate the state prohibition against imposing religion because they force the public to respect the sanctity of an immaterial concept. Third, why the hell are you spamming this group, you worthless piece of ****? |

I believe that there should be copyrights/patents, but not with the sort of force they now exist with. For instance, a patent should only be good for say, five years. If you think about it, technology changes so much in that amount of time that any patent will long since have been superceded. Ditto with copyright, at least for music. Maybe only a year or two on that. If you think about it, 90% or more of all music is passe and very few people care to listen to it after only a few months. Certainly the market drops off sharply after that time. Some allowance should be made for composers and artists ONLY to get per-play radio royalties, but the RIAA and the record companies themselves should get no residuals past a cutoff point to be determined by sales figures. i.e. when sales drop off to say, 1000 units a month, royalties should go to only the artist and composer. Smarter people than me could crunch the numbers better than me. |

Second - The Individual CopyRight/Patent should be Limited to 20 Years -and- The Corporate CopyRights/Patents should Limited to 10 Years; plus a 50% CopyRight/Patent Franchising Fee Paid to the Government for the Government allowing "The Corporation" to have a Limited Monopoly.
