Serious DXing with a Drake SW8

Has anyone in the group done any serious or very serious DXing with a
Drake SW8 (preferably the newer version)? What did you think of both
the performance and your results?

Yes. I've taken an older version out into the North Woods, with
excellent results using a random wire antenna, against an earth ground.

Off the whip it's not nutslappingly impressive. But with an external
antenna, very nice, indeed.

Given the quality of local radio in and around the North Woods...DX,
MW and SW, is a sanity saver.

Made in China?

I have the newer SW8 in addition to an R8B. The SW8 is a very good
receiver for listening to international broadcasters and occasional SSB
stations but it doesn't have the features or performance of the R8B for
"serious DX'ing". If you are currently using a Sony-2010, I don't think
you would be that impressed with an SW8. The R8B is the way to go for
someone in your situation that wants to upgrade to a high end receiver.
