You are wrong, deductions are not a $1 for $1 reduction in tax
liability. It's in the 15% to 20% range of the amount that was given.
Not a good return on their "investment", so that isn't what they are
interested in.

Influencing programming is the return that their investment brings.
Not so much regarding what you see, rather it is more a matter of
insuring what you don't see stays that way.
