Need help with Grundig Satellit 800

Is there anyone here who can tell me how to remove the "guts" from a Grundig
Satellit 800? I took the back cover off, but could not figure out how to
remove the main chassis from the front panel.

Also, does anyone know of a source for replacement encoders for this radio?
Mine is exhibiting the problem where the frequency goes in the opposite
direction from the rotation of the knob at certain times (e.g. frequency
decreases just a bit rather than increases when rotating the tuning knob
clockwise). I think this is a problem with dirty encoder contacts and would
like to either clean it or replace it.

Thanks,
Barry

Barry,

One of the few people that I know of that has opened
up the Grundig Satellit 800 Radio is Mike Maghakian

Also check-out the Grundig Satellit 800 Radio Group

There are others who have taken the Grundig Satellit
800 Radio apart to some extent. -but- not many.

Getting the Back-off is easy -but- beyond that things
get difficult. The Photo Section of the Grundig Satellit

the Radio to check-out and have-a-look-see first.

RHF,

That's what I was looking for. I'm on the Yahoo Group but hadn't found a
good set of instructions on removing the chassis from the front panel.
Mike's site is quite helpful.

Thanks!

I think mine will end up being a case of "Greasy Encoder". When I
pulled the tuning knob off, there was grease on the face of the
bearing and quite a bit on the brass sleeve as well. I don't even
know why they put grease on that area. The ball bearing should be the
part that spins inside itself but I suppose there's not enough
friction fit on the sleeve to let the ball bearing do its job. Tuning
might be a bit smoother if it did, though.

Anyone know where a replacement encoder can be purchased? I hope to
disassemble mine and clean it, but if I should break something in the
process, then...

Thanks,
Barry - N4BUQ
