http://tinyurl.com/65lv3g This brings back a lot of memories. I was in college when KYNO and KMAKe were fighting for the #1 spot in Fresno. Jim Dacon at KYNO used to let me in the control room when he was on the air on Sundays, and Dave McCormick let me in the control room at KMAKe several evenings while he was on the air. We were lucky in Fresno because at night we could also pick up KFRC from San Francisco, and KRLA and KFWB from Los Angeles, not to mention the BIG X (XERB - the mighty 1090) with Wolfman Jack. |

I listened to all 3 LA rock stations (KHJ, KFWB, KRLA), conditions permitting, in Scottsdale, AZ most nights when I was a kid. KOMA and WLS as well. I also picked up and listened to KOMA (Oklahoma City) and WLS (Chicago), not only while in college, but after returning home from military service in 1970. Not only did I DX on the radio as a kid and young man, but also did it with TV, getting stations such as KMID (Channel 2 Midland Texas), WOAI-TV4, KOTA-TV3, KOOK-TV2 from Billings, KDIX-TV2 (North Dakota), KCKT-TV2, all using a very small UHF-VHF antenna on a 10-ft mast on our home in Fresno, CA. In fact, we got KMID from Midland Texas quite often during the summer months. |
