This station, on a clean channel, covers most of California with a very
listenable signal, with only 10 KW days, 1 KW night. Why? Because the
frequency doesn't have too many stations on it. Greed killed AM radio,
along with the rest of the former USA.

Former? As far as I know, you drug addled 'tard, the USA is still an ongoing
concern.

As for KGED, they have apparently been heard in South Africa, quite a feat.

That's because you live in the bubble. By any objective definition the
USA, as envisioned by its founders, is a vestige at best.

I hope the expanded band (above 1600)
doesn't get clobbered with those fat-assed IBOCs
and we can still have some DXing fun up there.

"Some have proposed to use HD Radio in the daytime and AM Stereo at
night. Many HD radios are based on a common chipset that decodes C-
QUAM."

"Some users have reported that these radios decode the C-QUAM signal
with the channels flipped around (left in the right, right in the
left). Later revisions of the Accurian radio removed this feature, but
a representative from Sangean stated that they have no plans to remove
it."

The only problem is that there is an amazingly small part of the total radio
audience that uses AM at night. And, of itself, 7-Midnight listening to
radio is about a third of the daytime levels...

Radio audiences and radio advertising are all concentrated in the 6 AM to 7
PM hours. Since radio is a business, we have to focus on the times when some
economic benefit can be derived, or we go out of business and have to sell.

I can't think of a single successful x-band station... they all seem to be
sold over and over, moved around the country or being victims of format
shifts quite frequently.

Argentina was smart... they allowed multiple X-band stations on each channel
in the immense Buenos Aires metro, and that is where the religious
broadcasters and the ethnic broadcasters (there is a station just for
Bolivians) have gone.

Several of these have been heard in the USA, before the domestic X Banders
were all built out.

Presently in the State of California there are no AM/MW
Radio Stations in the Extended AM/MW Radio Band
that are Broadcasting in IBOC according to iBiquity.
http://www.ibiquity.com/hd_radio/hdr...#statio nlist

I can get KFIV-HD on 1360 kHz with a good consistant
http://www.kfiv1360.com/main.html
IBOC Signal. -but- KMPH-HD on 840 kHz will not even
http://www.kmph840.com/
give me a Blinking Blue Light -while- KFBK-HD 1530 kHz
http://www.kfbk.com/main.html
has a Blinking Blue Light but no HD {Digital} Signal Lock.

Some Days . . . I Ask Myself : What IBOC ?

You said yourself you only survey people who live in metro areas, so how
can you speak with any kind of authority regarding how us hillbillies use
the radio?

Radio broadcasting is to serve the public interest, convenience and
necessity. If you can serve the public and make a few bucks on the side,
good for you.
