"Killer" Burr,

Yeah, There seems to be several different types of Jammer music. The
primary one seems to be the original drum and flute percussive opera.
Lately, I've been hearing slower, dreamier-sounding oriental music
during at least a few of the jamming sessions.

SNIP

The jamming music is chosen to be annoying Chinese opera so you don't
want to listen to the station they are covering up. If it was China that
you heard with the nice music it was probably a domestic.

Telamon,

Initially, I shared the same thinking. But on August 8th, I caught the
dreamier-sounding music in parallel during the local morning jamming
VOA and BBC Mandarin broadcasts in the time period bween 1200 and 1400
UTC. Long music without interrupting voice. Clearly jammers (not the
domestics that I also listen for), but the music wasn't the regular
percussive flute and drum. I was wondering if they were trying out
some new jammer music to commemorate the Olympics.

And, after listening to it for a while, the percussive flute and drum
isn't really that annoying. As I originally opined, I think it's far
more interesting-sounding than Cuban or Soviet jamming ever was.

And thanks for not going off on a rant about Chinese politics, like
that dude from Canada did!

You may not care about radio censorship on a global scale, but I do. In
this case, the censorship is used deprive the citizens of a huge country
an ability to see the outside world. That doesn't seem to bother you, as
long as the jamming signal is entertaining.

I'm surprised that you, as part of the Education Industry, like to see
information withheld.
Do you also torture and kill Tibetans in your spare time?

1. Wow. Are you always drowning in your own self-righteousness?

2. My comments on 5000 years of culture were intended as "ironic
humor." Once again proving your intellectual ability to recognize
either word is very low.

3. Nothing I think or do or post will have one iota of influence on
policymakers in China. The fact that you seem to think you can make
the difference is proof that you overestimate your own influence on
the world.

4. Have you ever noticed how Steve's misbehavior is now pretty much
limited to lashing out at your constant jabs at him? Aren't we lucky
you're committed to continue doing that until time grinds to a halt!

5. I just want to listen to my radios and share some info about what
I'm hearing with people in a forum dedicated to shortwave. I think
there might be better forums for your purposes.

6. And, yes, I'd rather listen to annoying Chinese opera than listen
to the audio that has accompanied past forms of jamming. How you can
read that as an endorsement of jamming, in general, says more about
you than you may be comfortable disclosing...

Bye-bye!

It's like listening to a rape happening on a scanner and then commenting
on the nice background music.

"Out of the last three rapes I've heard live, I'd say the music on the
last one was by far the best. Quite enjoyable. Covered the screaming
quite nicely."
