One time, back in the 1950s, (somewhere around that time frame) I read a
paper at the Old Capitol Musuem here in Jackson, about rednecks.The
paper explained the term rednecks comes from the old Southern democrat
party when they wore red hankerchiefs around their necks.

Crackers, regarding humans.Bob Villa once explained (on one of his tv
shows, years and years ago) the term/name Crackers came from people in
Georgia many years ago when they were moving to Florida and using whips
to make the Crack noise to keep their livestock moving.There are several
schools of thought regarding Georgia Crackers.
