Every week a list of nearby clear channel flamethrowers doesn't impress me.

Now if it was during sunlight, like getting WLS at 2 in the afternoon
(CST) on a Magnavox AE-3805 [?] and a Select-A-Tenna (ca. $50 worth of
stuff-I bought the SAT in a charity resale store), indoors in downtown
Bryan, Texas...

Yes, I do plan on upgrading my equipment after the holidays. I've seen
several on Universal Radio I would like to get.

And don't worry, I'm not going to let a few bored trolls ruin the fun

Thanks much.

Cool, did just that on the X band...

1650 WHKT Portsmouth, VA - Radio Disney, had to wait until the top of

1660 WFNA Charlotte, NC - it's a simulcast of WFNZ
1690 WMLB Atlanta, GA - The voice of the arts

several other stations I was getting pieces from but faded in and out,
I asked Santa Claus to get me a Terk AM indoor antenna (40 bucks at
the Shack) RS #55016335

radioshack.com seems to have several AM antennas for sale, can someone
give me a recommendation ... the Terk AM seems to be popular.....

I should add that I want the extra antenna to be able to pick up
longwave also. I haven't picked up a single beacon or anything else on
LW with the G6. Just two tones but nothing else. I do live 35 miles as
the crow flies to the nearest real aiport here.

And I'll add, compared to my PRO-95 scanner which picks up airband and
picks it up well, the G6 has been crap there. All sorts of FM signal
images are in the band making it hard to scan through. Putting a
squelch control into the G6 could be a godsend for us who like to
listen to air traffic by sitting on a few channels. Right how, I would
say the G6 is useless for airband scanning.

....As someone who's debating on whether or not to sacrifice his
goldschalger commemorative slinky for a cantenna, are these Terk jobs
worth the $40? Or is there a better, similarly priced indoor antenna
that'll handle everything from BdAM up to 30m?

You may want to check out this link. It compares the Terk to the
Select-a-Antenna. Actually I was going to tell you to spend the extra
ten dollars- fifteen for the SAT but after reading this I wouldn't
bother.
Pretty informative write up on a direct comparison between the two
antennas IMO.

I know what you are saying Dave- I really do. But he is just really
getting into it again. I remember when I first started and if I would
have been posting in here back then say the first six months I started
I more than likely would have either quit all together or had to learn
all my own. I know many in here Brenda Ann/Steve/Telamon/RHF/Tom etc.
etc. really helped me out in here and didn't make me feel bad or less
educated than them. FWIW that setup with the Magnavox and select-a-
tenna would be a cool setup though. ;-) That is one piece (the
selecta) I never added to the arsenal that I would love to try.

That is exactly what I usually do until the last couple of weeks. No
one ever understood me tuning into a station that had nothing on it.
Actually I wonder what a trained psychiatrist or psychologist would
say if you told them what your hobby is? I am sure they would have
something "deep" to say....lol. Something in your childhood or the
thinking that you are "chasing" after something. I wonder what one

Hey- I will add this also. I was wanting to put together again what I
call my "fun car/truck".....something that is just mine and the wife
wouldn't care what I looked like driving down the road. In my old fun
car- it was either a 83-84 Olds Firenza that I basically stole at
auction for like $400. I painted it black and darkened the windows a
little and had six antennas hanging off that thing. It was fun going
to the junk yards and pillaging them for the "just AM" radios. I tried
three different kinds till I settled on a simple Delco that was badass
as far as the BCB. Two 1/2" ground plates, one welded to the frame in
the front and one to the frame by the truck. Those were the days! I
loved that car. Three scanners/CB with a small modulator box/ AM radio/
shortwave. I remember cruising down the highway and heard this one
driver tell another "Hey look at this little black car coming up in
the hammer lane- that moth**fuc**r is wired for sound." That cracked
me up. sigh
