RHF,

I prefer to listen to shows on the shortwave but honestly, there are a
lot of times when the signal just isn't that good while the stream is.
To me, streaming enhances, not harms shortwave. I like listening to
WBCQ but a lot of times but their signal is crap here in South
Carolina a lot of the time. So I listen online. If no one listened on
online, a lot of shows wouldn't be airing on shortwave now.

Yes, it sucks that the BBC, Radio Netherlands, Austria, Israel and
many others no longer transmit on shortwave aimed at North America or
have stopped all together. So I don't listen to them streaming
either.

I often wonder the same thing.

I teach English in China and when students ask me about local accents
in the USA, I would like to refer then to WWCR, but can't.


There's no shortage of weird sounding US preachers on SW. I heard Harold
Camping a few days ago, and he sounds like he's about a week from
checking out. There's another guy, don't know his name, who sounds like
some sort of weird Mr.Rogers impression. Creepy isn't the word for it.


I talk with, well, I attempt to talk to clients in China a few times a
week, and it's sometimes pretty comical. I had a woman today whose name
seemed to be Chinese, but she had a weird speech impediment that made
her sound like she was a Hispanic woman doing Elmer Fudd as a Chinese
guy. I had no idea what she was talking about for several minutes, and
then I had to tell her she had called the wrong facility. That took
about 15 minutes to get her to understand someone there could speak
Mandarin and Cantonese.

I had a hard time keeping from busting out laughing towards the end.
