AMBCB was somewhat of a disappointment as there are only two stations I
could get here in SoCal with the inferior low-gain supplied indoor loop,
KNX 1070 and KOGO 600 and they both only showed their call sign and no
program info, KNX did say it was in Los Angeles.

- The FMBCB on the other hand was a pleasant
- surprise with many stations offering sub channels
- and the local Public Broadcasting station, KPBS
- 89.5, offering two. I know there's been lots of talk
- about the bandwidth *hogging aspect of HD-AMBCB,
- maybe that could be dropped, but the digitally encoded
- sub-channels of FMBCB don't seem to have any
- more negative effect than the long standing presence
- of SCA services, which aren't even noticed when tuning.
- I don't regret having a nice sounding tabletop that I can
- control via an IR remote, even if all HD goes away.

Until you can buy a receiver for $5, like you can with regular FM, it's
pretty ****in' far from "free".

Once radio becomes 100% digital, 400,000,000 receivers will be rendered
obsolete.

for that nitpicking nitwit that insists
XLNC1
isn't the callsign they go by - http://www.xlnc1.org/index.php

XLNC1 is a name the station has chosen to go by. The call letters, as
assigned, are XHLNC. A station can name itself whatever it wants, within
reason. But the licensed calls can not be "XLNC1" as Mexico does not have
the XL-- prefix to use, and only licenses new FMs with the XH---- prefix; no
numerals are part of any call set as Mexico has not used numerals in calls
since before the 70's, when on-channel AM repeaters had consecutive numbers
after them.

Yeah and they don't sell Un-Leaded Gas
anymore either.

Plus you don't see many mechanical or 'electric'
Typewriters in-use in the Office or at home.

I thought it all was unleaded nowadays,
no need to label it as such anymore?

True, it was leaded gas they took off the market in the late 70's (IIRC)

But there are still untold billions of pencils out here.

Digital wastes electricity. Analog radios use less power.

I think your estimate may be a few hundred million short.. since most
people have several radios (auto, home, portable, etc.. )

Most sources peg this at between 700 million and 1 billion working radios in
the US.
