While on this subject- why is the price of brand new SW portables
remaining stable (usually under $200) and the price of
OLD,USED,generally LOWER performance samples becoming shocking as we
just witnessed? Vintage Grundigs (not Lextronic) had great audio, but
was never designed as a DX machine. Also, Grundig radios weren't as
durable as some other European brands that were made in the past
-Philips,Braun etc.

Likely, it has to do with the fact that these are vintage
Grundigs. A name that is little more than a badge in the US. And a
name that's still stuggling elsewhere.

These are not, as you point out, Chinese or India made
One-ders. They're Grundigs from an era when that name meant
something. They're rare, and hard to service, today.

Such things will drive the prices up, among collectors.

I think you should give me that Opus 7 - you know, just to be nice.

Portuguese wonders?

Tube (valve) Grundigs are collection-worthy. The 650 is a nice example
of German excess. Always overpriced.

Overpriced? Why are some very old rare postage stamps ''overpriced''?
Collector value, that's why.

Don't know about the UK. I do know that they did it in the US during the
war. There have been varying accounts of to whom it was done. Some accounts
say only expatriots of enemy countries, some say all SW radios had to be
modified. I've personally had to rebuild several of the pre-war SW radios
that had been disabled on SW (some were really nasty hack jobs...
bandswitches removed or wired around, coils removed, components broken,
etc.).
