howdy everyone!

hope you all are doing well: even those i used to butt heads with LOL.
i wrote up the conversion of Sony's $15 SRF-59 to shortwave. this
unique radio uses low-IF and Hartley image rejection. it will run ~950
hours on an alkaline "D" type battery. the sound is quite good: it is
now a daily listener. a new PDF with homebrew antenna may follow. read

Is this the "Doctor Phil?" If so, indeed I remember the days when you
were here, hopefully all is well on your end.:-) Nothing much has
changed, as I'm sure you can imagine, same "person" doing the same
tired act.....but other than that - not too bad in here.

I like Phil and I think he is a smart guy but he writes terrible radio
reviews on the web. I strongly disagree with most of his assessment at
radiointel "Phil's Tabletop (radio) Guide. I'm pretty sure his review
here is actually a collection of what other people have perviously put
out on the web because I think he is capable of better observing and
reporting than what is written here.

howdy Bushcraftgregg!

yeah it's me... still active in radio... just not in posting LOL.

thanks Telamon!

if it is any consolation, 4 years later... of the 8 main radios...
only 2 remain! and both of those (R75 and R30) underwent revision. SDR
seems like the big thing now.

FWIW that shortwave modded SRF-59 has a nice low-IF filter sound.
ironically i listen to it and single-triode radios much more than any
tabletop :D.

regards,
phil :)
