I'm working on a spoof song about a dufus from Kentucky (figures) who lies
about having a PhD.

239 countries heard and 224 QSL'd (veried for those in Glendale) using the
NASWA Country List.

And, as always, don't let your children attend the Sullivan College of
Technology & Design.

They've hired at least one dufus who once claimed to have a PhD, and who
knows, there may be more dufi there.

A busy mind is probably the best defense against Alzheimers.

A busy mind doesn't have to lie about having a PhD.

Didn't there used to be a domestic (USA) SW station going by that call
and had a show called Wasatch Wind? I think they were in the north west
somewhere, and until I purged my old collection even had a QSL from
them. This was circa a couple decades ago in the 2010 days.

Salt Lake City, Utah. It got assimilated by the Borg several decades
ago. Now dark. Really dark.

Went looking this AM for a KUSW QSL (verie, for those in Glendale) but
couldn't find it. Maybe don't even have one. Did find one from KTBN, which was
the successor to KUSW.

I've seen one in PopCom or somewhere. Snow capped mountains as I recall
(through the drug-addled haze).

Short lived short wave rocker?

Was that the station where the owners arraigned playing "Sympathy for the
Devil" during a fund raising pitch by the Christian outfit that wanted to
buy them? So the prospective buyers could show their donating audience
how "evil" they were.

I think they also used KUSW audio as torture to keep Noriega awake
when they were trying to bust him in Panama.

I seem to recall that they were a short lived venture, saw a notice in
MT, tuned and found them, then lo and behold they were gone in less than
a year (not sure, but it wasn't long). Didn't they also have a signal on
the new at the time 13m band?

OK, I'm straining here, but wasn't KUSW the name of the rock station
on shortwave in the mid-80's? It broadcast from Tooele, UT (about 25
miles west of SLC). It played a lot of louder "headbanger" rock of the
early 80's. As I remember it, the military used the KUSW broadcasts on
loud speakers (from a sub?) to drive Noriega out of sanctuary in the
church he holed up in during the Panama invasion. A form of auditory
torture...

I know that by the late 80's, the religious Trinity Broadcasting
Network had bought the station as the global pilot ship of the TBN
network, KTBN.

There ought to be some old news accounts of the Panamanian invasion
(excuse me, "police action") that ought to be able to verify whether
or not this story is true.

Pretty sure,

Mike,
Louisville, KY
