"New Zune To Include HD Radio"

"Bob Struble, President/CEO of iBiquity Digital Corporation,
commented, We are very excited about the launch of HD Radio technology
on Microsoft’s Zune HD. We are planning with the HD Radio Alliance to
promote Zune HD to consumers."

MS only included HD Radio for the free publicity for its failed Zune
lines.

"DEAD AIR: Radio’s Great Leap Forward stalling in the Valley" December
5, 2007

"Nearly two years after the Valley’s four Clear Channel stations went
HD, several high-end car manufacturers have promised to offer HD
radios as an option on new models. But while Ford announced in
September that it offers the radios as dealer-installed upgrades — as
have Mini, Volvo, Jaguar and BMW — local Ford and Lincoln dealers had
not heard of HD and said they don’t offer the option."

"Are Ford and HD Radio in Sync?"

"The radio industry will, of course, promote Ford for free in exchange
for this development as part of the presumably soon-to-expire pledge
of airtime to the HD radio effort."

http://www.hear2.com/2007/09/are-ford-and-hd.html

Ford used the HD Alliance, too, but didn't bother to install HD Radio,
because it is too costly and doesn't work - LOL!

It's a fad. H[ybrid] D[igital] Radio will be in everyone's car, and people
will eventually stop caring, since the same 40-song playlists we all love
to hate will be simulcasted on each frequency all across the dial in the
higher-quality audio. Then unless ClearChannel and Infinity finally listen
to its audience, radio ratings will drop back to their current crappy
level
and you better sell all your stock.

I doubt seriously that IBOC is going to help radio at all. Their listener
base is rapidly moving away from them to other media that allows
individualized playlists and infinite choice. *Those people will not likely
go back to having someone else choose the ~200 tracks that they will hear
day in and day out. Besides, people are sick to death of 22 minutes of
commercials in every hour of programming.

BAD - OK great 'logic' for Music 'Content' Listeners
{Audio Consumers}

? What About News Radio ?

? What About Talk Radio ?

? What About Sports Radio ?

They are all Highly Topical and Happen in
Real-Time with moment-by-moment updates.

"U.S. automakers not jumping into HD Radio"

of the three carmakers about $150 million to $200 million annually,
automotive industry sources said."

BMW HD Radio Troubleshooting Guide

It should remain a luxery item that smply doesn't work correctly - I
wonder, what horse BMW has in this race, that they are installing this
****, with customer complaints, forthcoming. I can understand Volvo,
since Ford owns Volvo and is an investor in iNiquity. Same with
Switzerland, now that they are considering IBOC for its public
broadcasters - of course, all the tests were run by Clear Channel and
Cox. Does anyne have any brains, or balls?

Would your iPod car transmitter need to be redesigned to transmit in
digital for your non-analog built-in car HDRadio?

That's likely a technological solution that will pass into history
before we get to non-analog built-in car radio.

More manufacturers are integrating iPod into their factory sound
systems. Not just an Aux jack but an actual iPod port with code to
access the iPod O/S from the radio face. I installed an aftermarket
interface in my car 6 years ago, and haven't been without that
functionality since, in any of my cars.

FM solutions to iPod connectivity have lost a lot of ground in the
last couple of years. They'll be hard to come by before long. Long
before analog passes from radios in the US.
