I picked up three big bags of pecans off of my back yard this
afternoon.I know how to clean them, but I needs to figure out a faster
way to crack the shells.Maybe I will lay some of them on my concrete
front porch and lay a heavy thick square piece of concrete over them and
push it around on top of them and see what happens.Sure, I can take them
to Hutto's yard and garden center on Ellis Ave and pay them to crack the
pecans for me, but I prefer to do it myself.

Get a car and jack up one of the drive wheels just barely off the
concrete. Block the other 3 wheels for safety then start the engine and
put it in gear so the one tire spins. Take a handful of nuts and toss
them under the wheel from about 3 feet away and they will spit out the
other side of the wheel nicely cracked. Works good with walnuts.
Just be careful, and never get within 2 feet of the wheel or you could
get the same treatment.

Cheers,

I have a very old pecan shell cracker, I think it is anyway.I guess some
people would say it is an antique. The jaws look sort of like Alligator
jaws at a right angle to the handle, it is made of cast iron, there are
grooves in the jaws. There is a spring under the handle. It is mounted on
a board with big old timey looking wood screws.I think the name which is
stamped into the cast iron says Blake Breaker.

I picked up about twenty or thirty more pecans from my back yard this
morning.I can't hardly eat pecans anymore because they tear up my guts
too much. This Friday, I am going to take them to Hutto's yard and garden
center.Hutto's has the machinery to clean them and crack them and shell
them.Yesterday, my sister came over here (as per usual on Sunday
afternoons to see if I am still alive and kicking) and we picked up two
bags of pecans.

I used to have two more pecan trees, one in my front yard and another
one in my back yard.Hurricane Katrina weakened those pecan trees, they
were near my house and leaning too much toward my house. In June of 2006,
I had them cut down and hauled away.A guy and his two sons from Idaho
and another guy cut them down for me, $400.00 each pecan tree.Right now,
I am working on sawing down that pecan tree stump in my front yard, at
ground level with one of my hand saws.
