Repeating the song "whip it" over and over. AM mode. Maybe WBCQ doing
some test?

I am looking at a spectrum display and one of the sidebands is
missing. AM mode sounds distorted a bit. In synchronus AM mode sounds
OK. Maybe they are trying to save money. Bro Stair recently cut his
programming.

Looks like they might be sending amplitude compandered single sideband
on 9330kHz. Glenn Hauser mentions this in one of his columns regarding
9330 using CUSB. You can test it out. Put your radio in LSB and you
hear very little. USB and you hear the normal signal. But you still
have a pilot carrier so it will sound OK in AM mode.

Isn't this what CHU and HD2IOA (Guyaqil, Ecuador) do with their time
signals? CHU on USB, HD2IOA on LSB - ? Each has a carrier, but only
one audible sideband.

I believe so. I sent them an e-mail and in the process found out this
was a test transmission and that they had also been on 15420. I did
not get a chance to check that frequency unfortunately, but the
propagation on 31m held up right until the abrupt sign off at 10PM
local time.
