Those guys don't know what they are talking about. It was only a C class flare and I was on the air when it hit yesterday afternoon. Heard some static for a couple seconds on 40 meters but it did not cause a radio blackout. In fact I heard there were openings on 6, 10 and 12 meters. Still unsettled on the lower bands but might want to try just before sunset on the higher bands for some DX. http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/rt_plots/kp_3d.html Jim The VHF is bouncing off aurora. Take a look at the Planetary K Index: http://www.solarcycle24.com/planetk.htm |

Take a look at the Planetary K Index: http://www.solarcycle24.com/planetk.htm N-S paths are hot on 20 meters. Just talked to a guy in Buenos Aires with a wire antenna and 100 watts (both of us) - excellent signals both ways. |

Lots of Cubans, Brazilians, Argentines, etc. |

Not really off topic at all. Meteors do affect the ionosphere.
