Palstar R30/R30A tuning question
 

I'm considering getting a new receiver and one of the models I'm
considering is the Palstar R30A.

But I have a concern about the tuning: I already have one minimalist
communications receiver -- the Lowe HF-150 -- and the one thing I
can't stand about it is how s-l--o---w the tuning is in USB or LSB
mode. It makes clarifying the signal properly easier (which is why
it's this way, of course), but it makes the receiver essentially
useless for hunting for signals in USB or LSB mode. It just tunes too
slowly for that.

Does the Palstar tune like this, too, or are its tuning rates more
reasonable in SSB mode? What I'd ideally like is something that tunes
pretty much the same rates the HF-150 does in both AM and SSB, with
the option (under my control, NOT automatically chosen as a result of
mode) to slow the tuning rate down if I want.

Ack! That's really bad wording there. Let's try again:

What I'd really like is a receiver that tunes at about the same rates
the HF-150 does in AM mode, but does so in both AM and SSB, with the
option (under my control, NOT automatically chosen as a result of
demodulation mode) to slow the tuning rate down if I want.

Palstar R30 is NOT in the same group of radios such as Lowe
HF-150,despite of much physical similarities.To start listing the
differences, my R30CC has two very decent Collins mechanical
filters . According to all reviews published it has a pretty high
dynamic range and I never experinced any overload / intermodulations.
However, Lowe HF-150 was designed (!) be used with an external
preselector... Palstar I own has a high serial number,as far as I am
aware of, and has two speeds for tuning. It is a high performance
receiver ,but does not have a keypad nor remote,unfortunately.
