Dave:

Do people using PSK have conversations? Or is it mainly just signal
reports?

With all good wishes,

Kevin, WB4AIO.

Why don't you tune in and see? I generally don't rag-chew and DX at the
same time, as I'm right on the edge of legible print and this makes
casual chit-chat less than casual.

First, don't just single out PSK; there are many other digital
(keyboard-to-keyboard) modes, RTTY, PACTOR and Hellschreiber are just a
few that come to mind.

Next, you ask "Is it conversations or signal reports?"

The answer is, yes...both. It can be whatever you like or
prefer...although if it is a rare DX station with many waiting, it's bad
manners to have a nice chat; just a sig report and make way for the next
guy in line.

I've had many nice RTTY and PACTOR chats.

Per Dave's suggestion, to receive PSK or RTTY all you need is your
receiver, a computer with a sound card and any one of a variety of free
software programs.

Easy and fun...

Thank you! When I get a desktop receiver and home antenna set up,
I'll check it out.
