At least the Microscrap junk catches it in their execution and memory access
violation trapping like a real O/S does. In Linux it just hangs the machine
leaving the user guessing "What happened?"

Good thing Linux is not that complex or popular and people can't be bothered
to write viruses for it frequently.

It's lonely at the top

Whatever. It's lightning quick now. If it ever gets trashed like Windows
it'll still be free. All systems crash. WhyTF should I pay MSFT
shareholders $200 for the privilege?

You download an .iso file and burn it to a CD with an .iso burner (free
app.) You then reboot your computer with the CD in the drawer. This will
load and run Puppy without making any changes to your system. Baby
steps. Here's a tutorial:

Like I said, use a Live CD for Puppy Linux (or Ubuntu for that matter).
Run like that until you are comfortable with it. Ubuntu will run inside
of existing Windows installations very cleanly. No need for a separate
drive.
