"A 1997 study by the Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island
described a worst-case disaster from uncovered spent fuel in a reactor
cooling pool. It estimated 100 quick deaths would occur within a range
of 500 miles and 138,000 eventual deaths.

The study also found that land over 2,170 miles would be contaminated
and damages would hit $546 billion.

That section of the Brookhaven study focused on boiling water reactors —
the kind at the heart of the Japanese crisis. "

The only safe N. reactor is the one on the pages of a Physics book .
BNL itself claims to be "supersafe" . BTW, in is near the same
location were Tesla had one of his science projects (Wardenclyffe
Tower) .

The government chose the worst path, uranium, because it could make
bombs. They were aware of the Thorium solution and still went in the
wrong direction. Someone made a lot of money by convincing corrupt
politicians what the 'right' course of action was.

The last time you brought up Thorium, I did considerable reading
in addition to the links you supplied and materials you suggested.
It would seem that there really is no reason not to move in that
direction for power generation. Aside from the benefits you state
here, Thorium reactors are scalable, so more may be brought online
as demand expands, they require a much smaller real estate
footprint, and containment is much easier to achieve, with the
reaction being self regulating.

Aside from the obvious military reasons for continuing the U/Pu
line of development, has anyone offered a reason WHY Thorium
reactors are not being implemented on a wider scale?

Missy Sippy has only one nuke plant, Grand Gulf at, or near Stennis
Space Center.Last year I read sumwhar and I saw and I heard on local tee
vee news that there are plans afoot to enlarge/expand/add on/whatever
nuke generating capacity to Grand Gulf that would make the Grand Gulf
nuke plant the largest nuke plant in America.

And let us not forget the new (afoot) Kemper County,Missy Sippy coal to
gas conversion plant.Shades of Pitosi,Poland, World War Two!

I don't know yet if some of that new generator stuff is on hold, or not,
whatever.

Come on couch buddy doggy, lets go get our snail mail. You cost me $54.00
at Animal Medical Center this morning. At least that elevated liver level
thangy you had is wayyyy down. That's a Martha Stewart Good Thing!

I hope you still have it. They seem to be worth their weight in gold
now. Check out eBay for prices.
