BpnJ,

Listened just about every hour at the top of the hour
for -5 to +5 and have heard only 'Audio Artifacts' and
"Mumbles' since yesterday.

"Good Clear Audio"* : Recognizable Words and whole
Sentences {Content}; Language; Speaker's Sex:M/F;
Voice-v-Music

* Good Enough for Radio Program Listening

"Identifiable Audio" : Recognizable Words and Language

"Mumbles" : Language like sounds and Word Fragments

'Audio Artifacts' : Sounds like there might be Audio
on-frequency; and when you Tune +5k & -5k there
are 'no' like sounds; just the background band noise
at the time.

BpnJ,

Run Two Receivers one on the Target 12,759/4319 kHz
and the other on the Parallel Verifier 7811 kHz to see
if the Words and Sounds appear to 'parallel' each other.
Usually that's good enough to say : That's It ! :o)
http://myafn.dodmedia.osd.mil/ShortWave.aspx
-note-the-error-78110- should be '7811'

For AFN-DG 12,759/4319 kHz you might use
AFN-Guam on 5765 kHz as the Parallel Verifier.
http://myafn.dodmedia.osd.mil/ShortWave.aspx

As for me each Hourly Check for AFN-DG
has resulted in 'zilch' ~ RHF

Run Two Receivers one on the Target 12,759/4319 kHz
and the other on the Parallel Verifier 7811 kHz to see
if the Words and Sounds appear to 'parallel' each other.
Usually that's good enough to say : That's It ! :o)http://myafn.dodmedia.osd.mil/ShortWave.aspx
-note-the-error-78110- should be '7811'

For AFN-DG 12,759/4319 kHz you might use
AFN-Guam on 5765 kHz as the Parallel Verifier.http://myafn.dodmedia.osd.mil/ShortWave.aspx

As for me each Hourly Check for AFN-DG
has resulted in 'zilch' ~ RHF
*.
-fwiw- Sometimes I do hear what appears to be
a CW Marker Beacon? on 4319 kHz. *You may
want to Listen for that...

I catch your drift, Sergeant ;-) When I can, I will give that a try.
I do often (and easily) hear that beacon on 4319, AM and LSB, so
luckily it does not interfere with USB. It's not DG, is it?

At this point, however, I have no doubt whatsoever that I heard DG on
12759. At this noisebucket location, though, I may never hear them
better, assuming I ever hear them again.

Roy - Victor Goonetilleke in Sri Lanka informs me that AFRTS 12759U in
BIOT is obviously on the air at 0138z today, May 1, 2011, and likely
has been for a few days at least - so my reception of them during the
0100 - 0200 hours the last few days has been real :-) *Reception
Report time! *Yahhooo! :-) *Also notes that the remote Perseus
receiver in Oregon has them today at SIO 333, which is MUCH better
than here in San Francisco Bay Area - but what the heck! :-)

Decent enough signal here on 12759 at 1130, // 7811.

Is that 7811 also DG?

I rarely get "decent" signals here. *I have to fight and struggle
every inch of the way for DX.

- Still wondering when AFN Pearl Harbor, Hawaii
- is going to return to service . . .
*.
Hearing Carrier with Dead-Air ?Open-Mic? on 6348 kHz
about once in a minute can hear some Audio Fragments
{Whispers & Faint Parts of Words*} in what sounds like
background noise.

* Like someone is talking in another room or far across
the room; but you can not quite hear what they are saying.

Yes - Not 'On' 6350 kHz where AFN Pearl Harbor, HI
should be but isn't... -but- AM on 6348 kHz ? -close-

Heard : 1020~1100 UTC with S7~S9 Signal
on 2 Mayo 2011

The EiBi presently Lists this for 6348 kHz :

Impossible to catch specific concepts, but it surely sounds like an OM
ranting on in EE.

As I mentioned earlier, I obtained a QSL card for reception of this
AFN Diego Garcia transmission on April 30, 2011. Needless to say, and
am very pleased and thrilled with this card, as this mere 3 kW (?)
omnidirectional station is the most nearly antipodal low-power station
I have managed to dig out of the suburban QRM at my home. I know lots
of other folks have gotten this QSL, but for me, receipt of this QSL
is a significant part of fulfilling one of my many lifetime hobby
dreams.

I received worthy and important guidance from several people, without
which I would not have heard and recorded the detail of this station
at the time I did, and which I acknowledge here -

To RHF (Roy) for bringing up the subject of AFN on 12579 at
approximately the right time, and following up with additional
relevant communiques - his tip-off is greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Roy!

To dxAce (Steve) for publicly noting the time when it was transmitting
and providing valuable insight into nailing down enough detail to net
this station. Thanks Steve!

...and to Victor Goonetilleke of Sri Lanka, who kindly confirmed that
AFN Diego Garcia was indeed transmitting at the moment I heard them
despite the time parameters listed in their A11 schedule. This helped
me to be confident that I was not hearing an image or mixing product
rather than the station. Thanks Victor!

Bruce Jensen

Great job Bruce.

Diego Garcia is one of my favorite amateur QSL's. Mainly because I
made the contact with under 100 watts (SSB).

I also have a contact with 100 watts SSB, on 20 meters as I recall, and using
an inverted vee dipole at about 25'.

If I get ambitious I'll dig out the QSL and get the callsign of the fellow I
worked.

The guy I worked was VQ9LA. I looked him up on QRZ.

Mine is VQ9WM, William Moore, 9 November 1990, 20 meter SSB.

His home call is/was K7IOO, in the State of Washington.

Awesome! *Was that voice or CW / RTTY?

SSB Voice. A VQ9 prefix as I recall. At first I thought it was a
Canadian station. Lucky I called him and asked for his location.

Jim (MI)

Hah! Almost too good to be true, eh?

That was the good old days of solar cycle 23. Also worked Palmer
Station in Anarctica with 100 watts back then. Bombay and Madras in
India too with 100 (SSB).
