With the price of ONE taxi medallions around $650K at the present time , they are being used around the clock . Literally . Since Chevrolet stopped making full-size cars, like Caprice , they tried using 15 other makes/ models . The result : they don't hold up . Period . Yep, it is hard to beat the full size Ford cars for Taxis, they are Great looking cars too. About twenty something years ago I went to a Durham auction on I-55 South Frontage Road.A guy who was there and his wife (or girlfriend, whatever) bought an old Checker car. That car wasen't painted like a Checker Taxi would be painted, it was a solid black color Checker car, but it might have been a Taxi at some point in time. They paid $700.00 for that old Checker car. When the auction was over, I saw them zooming North in that old Checker car on I-55.I wouldn't doubt that old Checker car is still running just fine right now. Those Checker cars were built like a Tank.http://www.devilfinder.com/find.php?q=Checker+Cars Checker built at least one Jeep vehicle for the U.S.Military to evaluate for World War Two. cuhulin OMG ! - - Checker Motors Corporation in Holland Michigan ! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checker_Motors_Corporation |
