I don't worry about the Brits, Let them Dig their own Graves!
I don't worry about my half a dozen old empty very rusty tool boxes I bought at Goodwill years ago.In about a week or so when I go to the Animal Health Products store for a big bag of Pro Pac dog food, I will stop off at the seed and feed store (ergo the seed and feed store is on the way to the Animal Health Products store, I don't see any reason to burn gas making two trips) for some molasses.I will mix molasses with water in a big old plastic tub and I will see if that will derust my very rusty tool boxes.Doggy isn't worried about any tool boxes, why should I be worried? http://www.devilfinder.com/find.php?...s+Rust+Remover cuhulin |

The phosphoric acid converts reddish-brown iron(III) oxide, Fe2O3 (rust) to black ferric phosphate, FePO4. "Rust converter" is sometimes a greenish liquid suitable for dipping (in the same sort of acid bath as is used for pickling metal), but it is more often formulated as a gel, commonly called naval jelly. It is sometimes sold under other names, such as "rust remover" or "rust killer". As a thick gel, it may be applied to sloping, vertical, or even overhead surfaces. After treatment, the black ferric-phosphate coating can be scrubbed off, leaving a fresh metal surface. Multiple applications of phosphoric acid may be required to remove all rust. The black phosphate coating can also be left in place, where it will provide moderate further corrosion resistance (such protection is also provided by the superficially similar Parkerizing and blued electrochemical conversion coating processes). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phosphoric_acid |

Rust Never Sleeps! That's a Neil Young song. The best, and cheapest way to get rid of rust on tools is thusly: Get a big jug of white vinegar and pour it in a plastic pail. Dissolve as much regular salt in it as it will take. When you get salt on the bottom and it's not dissolving anymore, no matter how hard you stir, it's enough. A gallon of vinegar will probably take a couple of pounds of salt. Place rusty tools in the liquid overnight. Make sure the liquid *completely* covers the tools, or you'll get a line across the metal you will NEVER get rid of. This liquid removes only rust and is reusable for months. It's also non toxic when you finally pour it out in the back of the garden. Try it on something of no value first, like a rusty nail. After an overnight soaking, remove tools and give them a good rinsing with fresh water. Then, either oil the tools or paint them with a thin coat of rust proofing paint. If you're really thorough, rearrange the tools once in a while, so all surfaces get exposed evenly to the vinegar mixture. This is the best best method I've found for cleaning up old rusty ferrous metal. mike --- And, as always, don't leave your children unattended anywhere in Holland, Michigan. Many, many undesirable backwater types live there. They have at least one dufus who once claimed to have been the Supreme Commander of a gay paramilitary sauna club and fantasized about 'blowing away' Canada, and who knows, there may be many more dufi there. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.17 (GNU/Linux) iQEcBAEBAgAGBQJOcrt+AAoJECGtZwCbtgwXJDMH+gPO4Begxd 9yhAfZZMQzVumU 6tlvFpzmDSaDWkKemd0BwUW7t+o5NkfcPCyCa/hDqsbGk2AKCe43FTUEwQFzAv7q EUb2ibl05zqyI2Vupb/mn34YQvGhlBWmwfD0hZz5JfeLucw5suH3Qs8++I+MdBfF ynrOBbwZ2eSd1Oyz3lY39cRfPJzJF3Cqhnhe6U5wzA9UH3NPiN RrnJ67IJ4IsZYW CqJIgixcOtRTOwDH2zmilopnllc9QOFA/IOh5/vCma8MY9gKshBH8yoJUTYNEAhj z5vXP5l1rxRL3CRrhoRXlLlZyity23TFcILNKb/lU8R4HDDcRQqbzTrsMk9k4ck= =jTPr -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |
