- Are you referring to what is commonly called
- "precipitation static" that occurs when snow
- impinges on your antenna?

-also-
Dry Air Electro 'Static' Build-Up as the Wind
moves the Air Across things like your Antenna
Wire and suddenly ZAP! Discharges resulting in
what you hear {would call} 'Static'.

Versus a FOG 'Quiet' where a moist still Ground
Fog can drain-off most of the build-up of ESD
and local Atmospheric Noise is 'nil'.

Porcupine* the Far-End of the Antenna Wire to
reduce the ESD on the Wire itself

* Spread-Out each of the Individual Strands of
the Antenna Wire to form a Sphere {Pin Cushion}
-aka- 'Porcupine'
http://unzipyourgenes.files.wordpres...porcupine1.jpg

-note- 'Knot' the Wire first about an Inch
from the End; before you do the 'Porcupine'
thing with the last Inch of Wire Strands.
-tip- with Insulated Wire remove the Insulation.

The FCC rules permit TV antennas where shortwave antennas are banned.
You can use the giant Terk as part of a much bigger "stealth" HF antenna
system.
