Just got my power back at 6pm, this evening.

I got one of those same storms about half an hour before
you. Just got my power back at 6pm, this evening.

Here is the archived radar for July 11:

http://radblast-sf.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/radar/WUNIDS_composite_archive?centerlat=42.88145828&cen terlon=-85.53540039&radius=124&newmaps=1&type=N0R&type2=TR 0&num=24&SD.epoch=1310356800&ED.epoch=1310443199

The two storms here go through between 8-11 am EDT.

You got the northern storm that I didn't. But that second one
blew through my yard at about 8:05 am CDT. Went from nearly a
clear blue sky to horizontal rain in about 7 minutes, with
75+mph winds. And then it was over in less than 10 minutes.
There are still some areas of Lake County without power.
Waukegan took the worst of it, before the storm took out across
the Lake.

That 90 miles was crossed in less than 45 minutes, according
to reports I heard that day. And that red hook echo on the
radar was the definitive evidence of a tornadic storm. We had
reports in my neighborhood of a funnel, but no touch down. And
WBBM reported that a funnel was seem crossing the airspace over
the lake.

The storm took down trees three feet in diameter in my
neighborhood. Two of them are still down across powerlines, and
some roads are still closed.

Again, as so many times in the past, my house was spared any
damage. Though I did have a few branches from other properties
to clean up in the yard. Any serious damage where you are?

Lots of trees down in the downtown area. Had a report of a
waterspout out on Lake Macatawa just to the north of me, though
I'm not sure which storm it was with.

Had severe damage to the 138 kv line running near the power
plant, and still have some streets closed downtown as of last
evening.

I was one of the "isolated outages" out here, as I had the drop
broken along with the phone line from the pole to the house.

We've got extra repair crews here from various areas including
Indiana. The crew that repaired my line was from Hillsdale, MI.

Yeah, they said that there were 900 work crews effecting repairs
in Northern Illinois. I tend to doubt that figure. Although, by the
time I was finally restored, they were down to wire-by-wire repairs
in Lake County.

The positive spin on this was that with so much power and digital
service out, I did get some quiet SWL in after the storms had passed.

Somebody, tell him to get real ... and the antenna isn't in another

Here in California the "money holes" are of much more concern, the
government keeps taking more of our money, chucking it down the holes,
demand more ... but it is touch-and-go here, looks like we are going to
run out of money before those BIG ole' holes get filled!
