Ah, then you want to pay 10 to 20 times more for the food you eat.
Also, the rich would never stand for having to pay a living wage to
the people who clean their pools and rake their yards.

Very noble. Very comendable (sp). I don't believe a word of it.
You are telling me, given the choice, you would pick the more
expensive item at the supermarket if you could be guaranteed it had
been cultivated by workers who received a "fair day's pay?"

Maybe you're right. But I'm looking at the market in general. There's
a lot more people buying cheap coffee, no matter where it came from
than "fair share" coffee that guarantees the workers got a fair share
of the profits.

If that makes me an "elite dickhead," I'm sorry. It also makes me the
guy who sees where things go.

The product which has had some success is coffee - but you're right,
most people don't shop for such unless they believe it tastes better.

How many union people shop Wal*Mart? My father-in-law certainly
did.

So who decides what a "fair wage" actually is ?
The so-called minimum wage laws are based on the notion that there should be
a "fair" minimum wage.
And yet minimum wage laws are a prime cause of joblessness at the low end of
the scale of employees
And it also does nothing from stopping people paying less than that
legally defined "minimum wage".

True, you ask a slave owner what a fair wage is and the response is a
lot different than a guy attempting to support a home, car, insurances,
clothing, food, medical, retirement fund, etc.

Still, most would not have much difficulty telling which is the more
correct opinion ... if push ever came to shove, they could always get a
job and it would become immediately apparent, as to what a "fair wage" is!!!

I remember being shocked to find out some are in their 40s, 50s, even
60s and have never held a steady job ... well, unless unlicensed
pharmacist, gangster, crook, politician, fraud artist, con man, etc.
qualifies them ...

The dolt is evidently unaware of the adage, "Prosperity (i.e., productivity)

Actually, in 1969 I was working a Shell gas station, making ~$1.65
p/hr., I think that must have been a student wage, as I was 17 at the
time -- gas was .25 - .30 a gal, loaf of bread .15 to .25 a loaf, pack
of cigs .50 or less, six pack of beer ~.75, etc., rented a two bed apt
at 75.00 a month, etc.

Now that everything is 10x as much, that would make that $1.65, 16.50
p/hr, and like I said, I believe that was a student wage!

That would get us near to fair ... and return us to near sanity as a
society.

I can honestly say I do NOT believe I would be enjoying the retirement,
homes, cars, security, etc. I enjoy now if not for those, back then,
knowing what a fair wage is ... perhaps another method to recognize a
fair wage is one which will support what it took in past times ... my
past experience sure seems to indicate such ...

One thing I can say, and for damn sure, I would never have been able to
own my own businesses, pay others wages (fair wages) to support
families, etc. if those in business, back then, were as stupid and
confused as to what a fair wage is, at they are now! And, if I had to
compete against the slave labor being used in our prisons, the slave
labor of china and other countries, I would doubt I would have been
successful!

Most can look at that, job/employment history, and be able to figure it
out immediately ... others, it seems, will be stuck in confusion or just
trying to enslave others to work for poverty wages ... but I damn well
know, I lived it, and it wasn't easy -- today, it just looks impossible
to me ...

JS

You should get an LED/LCD TV. They are cheap and pay for themselves
quickly by using a 10th the electricity of a CRT set.

I have vomited falling violently ill at a state dinner in Japan, vomiting
into the lap of Prime Minister, I have always found the actual moment of
puke was only shown once on US television, I don't wish to be clearly
fainting before being helped to the floor I'd say once the president
experienced sudden, violent gastric distress

If truth were known, George HW Bush Pukes in Japan I'd bet the the president
experienced sudden, violent gastric distress,
falling violently ill at a state dinner in Japan, vomiting into the lap of
Prime Minister

Hey, everyone has to have a hobby, with you it is just viewing
projectile style vomiting ... but, most hobbies wear off with time --
still, in your specific case, one can only wait in anticipation of the
next which will catch your fancy!

Or, simply, if you can get someone to pay you 12 cents (about the cost
of a kilowatt of electricity) an hour to watch TV, you will be able to
buy a $1000.00 TV after 8333.333 hours of "work" (viewing the TV), or
1042.666 days at 8 hours of viewing a day ... but, since you old TV
probably only drew about 1/3 of a KW of "juice", you can time those
figures by about 3 ... which means, the TV will pay for itself in under
9 years!!!

I think my flat plasma screen is just fine ... I actually like the
picture better than most LEDs I have seen.

JS
