Radio World NASB members look into how shortwave radio — dismissed by
some as in its last throes — can eke out a place in the 21st century.



The Harper Conservative government has drastically cut funding to CBC.
They are the ones who should be called on the carpet! I figure if
Stephen Harper couldn't muzzle the left leaning shortwave broadcast
media like he did with federally funded climatologists and scientists,
he would just silence them permanently by indirectly cutting their jobs.

Both Angus-Reid and Harris-Decima poles show the Tom Mulcair NDP slowing
and steadily gaining popularity in Canada. Who knows, we may see
increased funding return to the CBC if there is a positive change to an
open and transparent government following the next federal election.
Whether it will be in time to salvage shortwave broadcasting in Canada
is no one's guess. That arm of the CBC had been badly neglected for
many years, and was running on antiquated life support consisting of
discontinued parts no longer in production. The Conservative government
merely pulled the plug. Had CBC shortwave broadcast consisted of right
leaning banter proclaiming the wonders of our Alberta tar sands, I'm
certain the outcome would have been very different.
